About Yoga St. Louis

Bruce_8-05cI have been practicing yoga since 1979 and teaching full time since 1984, when I founded Yoga St. Louis. I have studied in India with B.K.S., Geeta and Prashant Iyengar five times and continue to enjoy studying with their senior pupils both in the U.S. and abroad. Read about it in My Yoga Journey.

The way of understanding the world that is both expressed in the classic yoga texts, and is practiced by BKS Iyengar, has always appealed to me. Click on Yoga Philosophy to learn more.

A registered architect, I designed the Yoga St. Louis studio specifically for the practice of yoga. It has been acclaimed as one of the finest in the nation by top Iyengar yoga teachers. You can learn about it in Design of the Yoga St. Louis Studio.

I am certified to teach this method through the BKS Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. I also helped found the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of the Midwest Bioregions, serving on its Board of Directors from 1990 to 1996. We hosted Guruji Iyengar’s visit to Chicago in 1990, and his chairing of the triennial convention in 1993.

I am extremely grateful for the loving support of my wife of three decades, Linda G. Swaty. Not only do we share a love of yoga, photography, Indian food and culture, but we also are the proud parents of two children. You can learn about our daughter’s Indian adventures at India: The Next Generation.

I also appreciate two of the finest teachers in the region, Kathy Digby and Tiki Misra, who have taught along side me at Yoga St. Louis for over ten years. My life has been enriched immeasurably by working with them. Their practice is a testament to the healing power of yoga.
